Description

SIMILAC GO AND GROW MILK BASED FORMULA IS NOT HALAL ANYMORE

Nucleotide was not present in Similac Go & Grow milk based formula for infant in December 2009 when it was reported in Halal in Halal food book 2009 but sometime in 2010 they added Nucleotide to Go & Grow milk based infant formula. Presence of nucleotide in Similac's Go & Grow infant formula was brought to us by a Muslim consumer.

Nucleotide is made of three functional groups: a nucleic acid base, a sugar, and a phosphate. It is a structural building block of RNA and DNA.

In foods, it is obtained from brewer yeast cells which grow on alcohol. Anything which grows on ethyl alcohol a intoxicant("every intoxicant is khamer and every khamer is Haram whether consume in small or large quantity" according ahadith) is not consider Halal according to MCG criteria.
